Chewbacchus 2015: Cult of the Sacred Drunken Wookiee

The 2015 Chewbacchus Parade rolled on an all-new longer route through the Bywater and Marigny neighborhoods, starting and ending at the krewe’s new den, Castillo Blanco Art Studios at 4321 Saint Claude Avenue.

The krewe did a religious parody theme, “The Cult of the Sacred Drunken Wookiee.” In the process, The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus became a registered religious organization and began ordaining ministers.
The parade featured a six-armed golden Wookiee effigy surrounded by dancing devotees and over eighty subkrewes rolling with their own satirical themes and group costumes. The krewe also introduced a new, sacred throw in honor of the theme and the Sacred Drunken Wookiee: pocket shrines. These miniature containers honored many subkrewes and nerddoms represented in the parade, often filled with glitter, fur, and other cosmic debris.

The krewe was joined by guest celebrity “Space Pope” Andy Richter, who shared his Chewbacchus experience with a national audience on The Conan O’Brien Show!

In addition, Peter Mayhew, the Mighty Chewbacca Himself, Incarnation of the Wookiee on Earth, Emperor for Life, and Pope of Popes rolled with the krewe. He was joined by his lovely Royal Consort and Queen, Angie Mayhew, Our Lady of Space Grace!
