The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus returned for its eighth Mardi Gras parade on February 3rd, 2018, with the theme “Get on Board the Mothership.”

Since its inception in 2011, Chewbacchus has been operated by three Overlords who organized the Krewe’s parties, events, and parades. Kirah Haubrich, Ryan Ballard, and Brett Powers worked tirelessly for the last 8 years to grow the DIY marching group into a massive spectacle of pop-culture enthusiasm and homemade ingenuity. To honor their years of service as they become Overlords Emeritus, all three—Kirah Haubrich (Dilithium Crystal Hot Sauce), Brett Powers (MC Ghetto Fett), and Ryan Ballard (Space Commander Chewbaccacabra)—reigned as royalty of the 2018 parade. 

Parade Route

The 2018 parade route lined up again on Press Street, winding down N Peters St, Frenchmen St, St Claude Avenue, and ended back at Press Street.

Chewbacchanal

The krewe’s traditional post-parade bash, the “Chewbacchanal” was decentralized for 2018 into many parties throughout the Bywater and Marigny, organized independently by various subkrewes, including a wickedly good party at the Art Garage hosted by a mysterious group calling itself the Chewluminati.
