The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus will parade through the Bywater, Faubourg Marigny, and French Quarter on Saturday, January 24, 2026, celebrating its fifteenth season with a theme that feels both timely and timeless: “Rebellions Are Built on Hope.”

In true Star Wars-inspired fashion, Chewbacchus reminds us that joy, satire, and community can be the spark that lights the fire, and that hope flourishes whenever ordinary beings rise together against the forces of darkness. The 2026 logo is inspired by graffiti and guerilla art; its vibrant colors will turn our spaceship hulls, costumes, and parade throws into rallying cries for the Rebel Alliance. 

Krewe Royalty

This year, the krewe says farewell to beloved Overlord Dr. Strangelover, Richard Riggs as he announces his retirement from his duties held as Overlord since 2018. For eight years, Riggs has faithfully served the Sacred Drunken Wookiee with creativity, mischief, and boundless imagination. Throughout his leadership in the organization, he has orchestrated unforgettable parade lineups, curated much of the music that fuels our revelry, and designed and created stunning parade art. Though he departs to begin a new chapter of his life with his partner, climb the highest peaks of Appalachia, and pursue new adventures in art, he will forever remain a guiding light of the Sacred Order of the Chewluminati.

In recognition of his years of service as Overlord and thirteen years as a member, Overlord Dr. Strangelover will be crowned the official royalty for 2026 and shall henceforth, and for always, be known as CHEWBACCHUS XV, High Priest  Aetherius Strangelover, Keeper of the Sacred Drunken Mysteries, and Warden of Monsters and Myths. 

Route & Festivities

The parade plans to roll from Franklin Avenue and St. Claude Avenue, proceed along Elysian Fields, and journey up Decatur Street, ending at Decatur and Conti Street. As always, expect to see fan-favorite subkrewes like the Space Vikings, Krewe de Luxe, Han & the Solo Cups, and the Vampiric Council, alongside many  newcomers bringing fresh creativity to the cosmic celebration. And don’t miss the Chewbacchanal afterparty at The Fillmore New Orleans, where the revelry continues with live music, DJs, and intergalactic festivities of epic proportions.

The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus invites fans, friends, and followers of all fandoms to gather on January 24, 2026, for a cosmic celebration of celebration, creativity, and the unifying power of hope. Raise your Solo cups, bandoliers, and lightsabers high as we honor the Sacred Drunken Wookiee and honor the contributions of Richard Riggs, Chewbacchus XV.

In these strange and perilous times, to march in the streets, to create freely, and to be unapologetically yourself, is the rebellion.
